Sustainable Development and Technology

Overview

The Bachelor's program in Sustainable Development and Technology aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the interaction between sustainable development and technology and qualify them to deal with the challenges facing societies and the environment by integrating the main concepts and foundations of sustainable development with modern technologies, innovations as well as new technological transformations.

The program consists of a variety of courses, including the principles of sustainable development, spatial justice, crisis management and development, the foundations of database design, mobile applications, artificial intelligence in addition to other theoretical courses in development and practical courses in technology. These courses will in total work in depth to enable the student to understand and analyze the close relationship between development in its comprehensive concept as a process and modern technologies as tools. They will also reflect the students’ understanding on the development of the society and its environment. Based on this understanding, the student will be able to explore innovative technological solutions that contribute to solving problems and achieving sustainable development. This will be followed by case studies and analysis in the context of the balance between technological development and the preservation of natural resources from the Palestinian, regional and international reality.

This program provides the student with the opportunity to acquire critical thinking skills, advanced thinking based on providing sustainable and creative solutions, and interaction with the social, economic and environmental aspects of development. The graduate will be able to deal with complex challenges that arise as a result of technological development, and work on developing new technologies that contribute to achieving sustainable development in various fields.

  4. Meeting the needs of the local and regional market for specialists in sustainable development studies through technology
  5. Enabling students to build and adapt databases for the benefit of sustainable development programs
  6. Producing specialist graduates who are capable of linking development programs with technology
  7. Refining students with critical thinking and visualization skills to develop innovative solutions for development problems
  8. Introducing students to the challenges of local, regional and global development

 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

  • Linking the skills of contemporary technology, including programming, with the requirements of sustainable development in a rapidly changing world.
  • Developing quantitative and qualitative development databases with the help of smart programming and web design, which can be used for scientific research as well as administrative and development decisions.
  • Making use of artificial intelligence techniques for the benefit of issues of development, sustainability, e-government and e-management in light of smart automation.
  • Implementing partial and comprehensive development plans and visions in sustainable development, especially in the service of marginalized groups and poor communities.
  • Training workers and activists in the development process, especially in areas targeted by the apartheid wall and settlements in the Palestinian liberation context.
  • Redefining the sources and literature on emancipatory development and emancipation in order to understand the uniqueness of the Palestinian case which suffers from occupation and fragmentation.
  • Enhancing the steadfastness of people and local communities, especially in the Jordan Valley and settlement areas, by supporting developmental projects.
  • Building sustainable development teams to propose solutions and alternatives made up of the public sector, the private sector, civil society, universities and development experts.
  • Creating a serious development situation based on the philosophy of human rights and the contribution of women and development media under a smart matrix.
  • Building collective association initiatives of a developmental nature that benefit from charitable work, volunteer work, social responsibility and modern management.
