Applied Chemistry

Overview

The founders of the program are keen to establish a variety of academic relationships with other programs locally and regionally, and an effective partnership with the public and private sectors and the service sector. The program also lays the foundations of advanced scientific research to serve and develop all sectors of society from the chemical aspects, and adds various postgraduate programs that are intertwined with other scientific fields. The program also aims to provide the community with highly qualified and competitive graduates by taking advantage of the latest findings in chemistry and harnessing it to contribute to serving the Palestinian community by building a solid economy backed by knowledge. Added is the effective contribution to the labor market through its graduates, whether in the academic field (teaching, pursuing educational attainment, or research) or in the applied professional field, including the productive industrial sectors (public or private).

Goals

  • Providing the local community with qualified staff to build and develop its institutions and actively participate in achieving development in various fields.
  • Dealing with contemporary problems facing the society in the fields related to the specialization. This is achieved in an advanced scientific way and through the contribution to solving them.
  • Communicate effectively to achieve integration between higher education institutions and the local community in its various sectors.
  •  Develop and enhance the sources and tools of scientific research in the relevant fields.
  • Achieving the developmental vision of the department and the College of Science in particular and the university in general.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

After completing the requirements for obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry, the graduate is expected to be able to:

  1. Develop acquired theoretical and practical knowledge through self-learning skills and access to modern scientific sources and references.
  2. Apply theoretical information to explain observations, provide solutions to problems, and even make creative contributions to research, development and inventions related to chemistry.
  3. Understand the foundations of the various chemical industries, contribute to their development, and develop appropriate solutions to the problems they may face.
  4. Employ and apply the acquired chemical skills in innovative (non-traditional) investment fields, which contribute to economic growth and solve the problem of unemployment.
  5. Practice and compete in the labor market, armed with leadership skills, communication, self-marketing, and highlighting capabilities.
  6. Establish own businesses or sharing with others in modern economically viable fields, and the ability to manage and develop them in a scientific way.
  7. Provide innovative practical solutions to the environmental problems prevalent in the country (such as pollution, water, energy, ...).
  8. Teach theoretical chemistry subjects and laboratories for all levels in schools, and train students to adhere to the principles of public safety in the laboratory, to deal with devices and chemicals in a safe manner, and to avoid practices that harm health and the environment.
  9. Supervise the production and quality control of imported and manufactured goods in the production and service sectors and provide consultations to the private and public sectors.
  10. Complete the educational attainment in postgraduate studies in various local and international universities in the fields of pure or applied chemistry.
  11. Respect the ethics of scientific research and the ethics of the profession in various fields (academic, research and professional) and taking into account honesty in writing research, reports and recommendations.

Careers of Graduates

Graduates of this program have a wide range of specifications: in addition to the traditional skills and knowledge of chemistry graduates, the specifications extend to include practical skills and applications of chemistry in various industrial fields. Hence, we find that the graduates' fields of work include all of the following:

  • Teaching chemistry and science in schools and institutes of all kinds.
  • Completion of graduate studies (Masters and Ph.D.)
  • Supervising production lines in local factories in their various sectors.
  • Quality inspection and product analysis in local factories.
  • Assisting traders and importers of materials and devices related to specialization and providing consultations to industrial companies.
  • Employees in relevant ministries and government departments, such as: industry, agriculture, water, environment, energy, health, specifications and standards.
  • Research in applied and development projects and in research institutions in particular.
