The Arab American University is the Only Middle East Participant in Launching the END-VOC Project to Support the Global Response to the Coronavirus and Future Epidemics

The Arab American University announced joining the END-VOC research project as the sole representative of the Middle East, along with 18 other countries distributed in Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia.

The project is in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Health. It is funded by the European Commission, within the framework of Horizon Europe. The project aims to support the global response to the Corona virus and future epidemics by evaluating the spread and impact of emerging variants of the Corona virus and its branching strains. Data of 28 groups of people will be collected from patients distributed in different regions of the world.

75.9% of Palestinians living in  in the West Bank aged 18 years or older have developed antibodies against Covid-19,  according to a recent study conducted by Arab American university studies and polling center in collaboration with the PCBS

In continuation of the studies conducted by the Arab American University aimed at capturing the rapidly changing COVID- 19 pandemic,  the Arab American University Center For Studies and Polling in collaboration with the Palestinian Center Bureau of Statistics conducted a  national seroprevalence sample survey targeting adult Palestinians who are over the age of 18 years and living in the West Bank. The survey aimed at measuring the prevalence of antibodies developed in response to Covid-19 virus among Palestinian adults.

AAUP Organizes a Lecture for its Post-Graduate Students Entitled “The Future Governmental E-Services”

Arab American University hosted Dr. Amjad Ghanim- the Secretary General of the Ministries Council to give a lecture that was organized by the Poll center in the university. The lecture was about “The future governmental e-services” and it targeted the post-graduate students in Ramallah Campus.

Dr. Faisal Awartani- the CEO for the Research and Poll Center in Arab American University opened the lecture in a speech as he welcomed the keynote speaker Dr. Ghanim and emphasized on the importance of the topics of this lecture as it will introduce graduate students to the governmental strategy related to the e-services, in addition to the direct discussion between students and decision makers. Dr. Awartani also explained that it is important for the students’ projects to be according to the market needs and the guidance of the government related to the e-services.

 AAUP and PCBS Start a Campaign of Serum Scanning to the Local Community People who have Developed Anti-Bodies for COVID

The Research Center in Arab American University and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics announced the beginning of scanning serum from local community people, in order to know the percentage of Palestinian people who have developed anti-bodies for COVID.

The announcement came as part of the meeting that took place in AAUP-Ramallah Campus between Prof. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri- the University President and Dr. Ola Awad- the PCBS President, with the presence of Dr. Moayad Abu Saa- the VP for Academic Affairs, Prof. Mohammad Asia- the VP for the Medical Schools Affairs, Dr. Faisal Awartani- the CEO of the Research Center in AAUP, Dr. Nowar Qotob- the Head of the Health Science Department in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in AAUP and a delegation from the PCBS.

In a Recent Survey Study by the Poll Center in AAUP: 65% of the Palestinian People Think that the Upcoming Legislative and Presidential Elections will be on Time, and 71% will Participate in it

In the recent study prepared by the poll center in Arab American University about the current political and election situation in the country, the results showed that 65% of Palestinians believe that the upcoming legislative and presidential elections will be on its decided time, and 71% of them decided to participate in the elections.

The study included both genders equally of 18 years old and older, and the data was collected between Feb. 10th, 2021 and Feb. 16th, 2021 on a random sample of 1122 of (60% from the West Bank and 40% from Gaza).

AAUP Laboratories

As part of the studies that the Arab American University laboratories do under collaboration with the Ministry of Health that ensured the existence of 41 new cases of the new COVID strain that recently appeared in Britain in September 2020, AAUP laboratories studied new samples that were received from the Ministry of Health and discovered 139 more new cases of the new COVID strain.

Dr. Nowar Qotob said that the collaboration with the Ministry of Health will continue in order to draw the pandemic map for COVID in Palestine to follow up the new strains due to its biological importance and its rapid spread.

Mr. Osama Najjar- the Allied Medical Services General Manager in the Ministry of Health ensured on the importance to follow up the cases of all the patients that tested positive and asked all patients to stay in self-quarantine and follow the safety precautions.

Arab American University and the Palestinian Ministry of Health Announces 11 Cases of the New COVID Strain in Palestine

As part of the studies that the Arab American University laboratories do under collaboration with the Ministry of Health that ensured the existence of 17 new cases of the new COVID strain that recently appeared in Britain, AAUP laboratories studied new samples that were received from the Ministry of Health and discovered 11 more new cases of the new COVID strain.

Mr. Osama Najjar- the Allied Medical Services General Manager in the Ministry of Health stated that the cases are distributed as the following: 5 cases in Deir Jarir, 2 cases in Taybeh, 2 cases in Al Ram and 2 cases in Bethlehem. The total number of cases in Palestine of the new COVID strain that appeared recently in the UK is 28 cases until this moment.

AAUP and the Ministry of Health discovered that the new strains of COVID-19 exist in Palestine

At the time where Palestine is trying to understand the new COVID strains and to control it and limit its spread to determine the pandemic status in the country, a team of AAUP and the Ministry of Health conducted genetic tests to discover the new coronavirus strains in some of the patients’ samples.

The research team discovered that the new COVID-19 strains do exist in some samples of the COVID-19 patients from all over the West Bank and Jerusalem. This puts Palestine among the countries that have the new strains of COVID-19 that recently appeared in the UK.

The genetic sequencing of COVID-19 in the infected people in Palestine

A first of its kind study in Palestine

In the time when the whole world is trying to fight, control and limit COVID-19 spread, and as we are trying to understand the pandemic status in Palestine, an international team from Arab American University, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and University College London prepared a study that is the first of its kind concerning the genetic sequencing of COVID-19 between infected people in Palestine.

The study shows that the genetic differences in Palestine is the same as it is in the whole world, and the research proved that Palestine had witnessed many extraneous cases at different times, and this means that there is no first case or patient number zero.

A Study by the Research and Poll Center in AAUP : 74%  of the Palestinians Believe that Imposing Fines and Penalties will Help in Obligating Citizens to Respect COVID-19 Safety Measures

* 63% of the Palestinians approve that fines and sanctions should be obligated on all citizens to wearing masks and gloves.

* 74% of the Palestinians believe that financial penalties will help in obligating citizens to wearing masks and gloves in open places and to keep social distancing with others.

 * 54% of the Palestinians think that the security agencies do not implement these violations.
