This course provides an overview of the purpose and mechanics of the capital markets and the functions of the financial institutions that operate in these markets. Topics covered include an overview of financial assets, risk and risk management, global market participants, role of depository institutions, managers of collective investment vehicles, the functions of investment banks and the primary and secondary markets. Special emphasis will be placed on new developments and innovations in the capital markets including the use of data analytics and FinTech.
