The medical record is the corner stone of measuring H. care institutions performance and improvement of quantity and quality of health care outcomes and impact. Medical records form a wide and comprehensive database for planning and management of hospitals and other health care institutions. This course will help managers to understand the importance of MR and e-MR as an important integral part of health management information system (HMIS). It introduces MR various policies of organizing; maintenance; retrieval and retention. ICD9 and ICD10 will be used as a basis of coding, analysis, dissemination, feedback, and reporting to all levels of managers and health care stakeholders. This course will equip future managers with tools of measuring the most important health care performance (hospital) quantitative and qualitative indicators like, admission and discharge rates, occupancy rates, average length of stay, infection rates, readmissions and errors correction, morbidity and mortality rates and relate this with cost and financial information management. This course will introduce using both manual and electronic medical records, and advantages and disadvantages of each.
