Matrials study which include physical / mechanical properties, behavior for the appropriate design and selection of materials commonly used in orthotic / prosthetic practice. Strategies include the evaluation of components’ physical / mechanical / material properties and behavior in relation to its common clinical application. Concepts include, but are not limited to force vectors, design geometry (including stress concentrations), pressure distribution, stress/strain, friction, fatigue resistance, stiffness and corrosion resistance. Students should also have competence in practicing effectively and safely within a workshop environment.
