This is a one-semester course intended for Pharmacy students only. It is covered and emphasizing the following topics: techniques used in organic chemistry, recrystalization, melting point, boiling point, Extraction, Then moving to synthesis and practical application for organic chemistry, Chromatography in separation of two pigments, preparation of Aspirin, preparation of soap, and cyclohexene synthesis. In the final part is to analyze the organic compounds synthesized, by testing the functional groups present, (Alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes and ketones.). Finally, the student has to be familiar with other spectroscopic analysis used to identified the functional groups (IR and NMR) analysis.
