This course presents an overview of financial accounting fundamentals. Topics covered include the elements of the balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows, how economic events such as operating activities, corporate investments and financing transactions are recorded, and the analysis of financial statements. A unit will focus on differences in accounting methods around the world and accounting in the Middle East. The objective of this course is to provide students with a framework for the preparation and interpretation of financial statements. Students will develop the ability to analyze the performance of companies using the information contained in financial statements and to make informed decision regarding the company’s operations. Students will also learn the basics of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
