This course provides an overview of the workings of the digital economy and examines its activities and practices. Topics covered include defining the digital economy, the role of search, advertising and social media, the disintermediation of traditional companies, rise of online gaming, economic practices in the digital economy and the impact on labor, production and consumption as well as digital economic policies and practices. Special emphasis will be placed on the concepts, theories and policy questions that will define the future of the digital economy.
