The course aims to introduce the rules of international law relating to the environment as an increasingly important branch of international law. In this context, the course deals with what distinguishes this branch from the rest of the branches of public international law and the horizontal effect of this law. The course also seeks to present the most prominent historical stations that have contributed directly or indirectly to the development of this branch of law, including international declarations, such as: the Stockholm Declaration, the Rio de Janeiro Declaration, the Paris Agreement, as well as regional agreements on the environment. The course also seeks to delve into some of the concepts on which the rules of international environmental law are built, such as the principle of sustainable development and the principle of not harming others.
