170111220 NUTRITION ACROSS THE HUMAN LIFE SPAN ( 1 Crd.Hrs )

In addition to introducing the students with some basic nutrition related definitions, this course will elaborate and demonstrate the main two classes of nutrients (macro and micro nutrients), the components of each class, food sources, benefits and deficiency disorders of each nutrient. This course will cover the basic principles of planning a healthy diet and healthy eating guidelines and nutrients requirements for different stages through the human life cycle including pregnancy, lactation, childhood, adolescents, adulthood and older adults. The students in this course will be familiar with nutrition care process and they will be able to identify the patients who are malnourished or those who are at risk of malnutrition using nutrition screening and the nutrition assessment guidelines. This course will introduce the basic knowledge about feeding patients at hospitals and routes of feeding them. It will describe the enteral nutrition (tube feeding), parenteral nutrition (TPN) and some therapeutic diets. In this course, the students will recognize therapeutic recommendations and approaches that help promote health and adopt healthy life style. The students will be familiar with up-to-date therapeutic guidelines adapted to different patient conditions mainly nutrition related chronic diseases and disorders like diabetes mellitus and some gastrointestinal disorders.
