This course is directed toward achieving nursing college mission statement” Compassion, Accountability, Safety Excellence” CASE. The students are guided toward compassion by giving care through relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity. Accountable by being responsible to the ethical standard, maintain competency and upholding quality patient care and outcomes and standards of profession. This course provides opportunities to develop competencies necessary to meet the needs of individuals throughout the lifespan in a safe manner using the nursing process in different cases. Students learn basics of art and science of nursing. The role of the nurse as a member of the health care team is emphasized too. Students are introduced to excellence through actions and achieve of optimal health outcome for the patients, for themselves and for health care system as a whole. This course is designed for delivering high quality and safe nursing practice, which is imperative for every nurse. The QSEN competencies introduced through the course of fundamental and health assessment to address the gap between nursing education and practice. Nursing students are expected to achieve the six QSEN competencies that include (patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidenced based practice, safety, quality improvement and informatics) through nursing school and use them in their professional role as RNs.
