A variety of topics will be explored including weather maps and forecasting, Earth’s energy balance, adiabatic processes, cyclogenesis, severe weather, climate science and its relationship with meteorology, and various components of gaseous atmosphere and space, the study of climate elements including temperature, wind, and precipitation of various layers of the atmosphere, how they are measured and represented on weather maps, factors affecting the climate, foundations of climate classifications, climatic regions and their distribution and characteristics. Students who complete this course will understand many basic physical processes that control short event weather changes as well as long term climate changes and their inter-relationship with our surrounding environment.
