Dr. Mujahed Zayed, lecturer at the Language Center of AAUP has participated in the 9th Istanbul International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Zayed presented and published a research article and moderated the first session of the conference.
The title of Dr. Zayed’s research article was "Consistencies in Machine Translation: The Case of Arabic-English Translation of Media and Legal Terms by Bing Translator and Google Translate". The researcher provided a theoretical coverage of machine translation and methods of employing it to obtain the best target language texts between multiple language pairs including English and French, Russian and Spanish, German and French, and English and Spanish, until he concluded with a review of its most important features between Arabic and English.
The aim of Dr. Zayed’s research article was to investigate the consistency in machine translation programs in the case of translating legal and media terms from Arabic to English, as well as the appropriateness of the translations provided by machine translation for the mentioned terms compared to specialized glossaries.
The results of the study revealed that the investigated translation programs provided more appropriate translations for legal terms, with a slight preference for Bing Translator over Google Translate. The results of this study also revealed that Bing Translator and Google Translate were consistent in their translations of media and legal terms. The translation programs were more consistent in translating media terms than legal terms.
The researcher recommended using GT and BT carefully as they provided inconsistent translations for the meanings of terms in specialized dictionaries in certain cases.
Dr. Mujahed Zayed stressed the importance of this participation in Istanbul International Conference due to the real results he reached through analyzing translations provided by widely used automated programs in the modern era, which provides practical steps that benefit translators and users of automated translation programs in obtaining a good target text. Moreover, such participation places the name of the Arab American University in international events and conferences with highly credible scientific outputs, thus enhancing the University's remarkable presence among the most prestigious universities that participate in research events at the local, regional and international levels.
