The Conflict Studies Research Center at the Arab American University, Ramallah Campus, has held a symposium to discuss the “Why it Worked” project in cooperation with the Ruaa Center for Political and Strategic Studies, with the participation of international academics and researchers from Harvard, George Mason, Delaware, and Ottawa universities.

The participants presented five analytical studies of long-term and unequal international conflicts, during which they reviewed their in-depth studies and analysis, and the reasons for the success of some strategies for resolving political conflicts at the international level. This gave the attendees a deeper insight into the complex dynamics of these conflicts. The importance of the event came out from sharing knowledge and visions in order to achieve a deeper understanding and more comprehensive approach to the challenges facing different societies, especially the Palestinian one.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Asia, Vice President for the University Campus in Ramallah, inaugurated the symposium with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees. He stressed the importance of the symposium, which contributes to enhancing scientific and knowledge exchange between researchers from different universities around the world. He said: “We pay great attention to partnerships with international universities and they represent. This symposium is a platform to promote constructive discussions among academics about political conflict resolution strategies and how to apply them.”

For his part, Professor Dr. Ayman Yousef, lecturer in international relations and conflict resolution and member of the Board of Trustees of the Conflict Studies Research Center, pointed out the Center’s role in highlighting complex conflict issues and providing solutions based on scientific research, pointing out the need to commit to developing academic research as a tool for understanding and treating political issues.

In turn, Fatna Hodli, one of the founders of the Ruaa Center for Political and Strategic Studies, stressed the importance of this project and said: “This project was just an idea before it was published, and now it has succeeded in bringing together this number of academics and researchers from different parts of the world to discuss political conflict resolution strategies.”

At the end of the symposium, the participants came up with several recommendations, most notably emphasizing the necessity of strengthening international cooperation in the field of scientific research on international conflicts, and the importance of using scientific research as a tool for developing effective strategies for resolving political conflicts. The participants stressed the importance of exchanging experiences and knowledge among academics from different backgrounds, disciplines and geographies to promote a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the complex issues facing societies.
