A group of second-year medical students at the Arab American University in Ramallah have completed practical training that lasted for two weeks at the Hclinic Specialty Hospital.
The training was part of the cardiovascular system course, where the students underwent their first clinical training experience. This training included skills in checking blood pressure and heartbeats, identifying heart disorders, basic skills in reading electrocardiograms (ECG), and heart conditions such as chest pain, breathing difficulty among others. The training also included introducing the students to the hospital wards, their working mechanism, as well as the administrative procedures followed in the medical system.
During his following up on the progress of the training, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University, Dr. Malik Zaben stressed the importance of providing medical students with high-quality practical skills and said: “We seek to develop the Faculty of Medicine and support its students even before the clinical training stage. The quality of training will contribute to enriching the clinical stage and improving the reality of services and health care provided to citizens in the future.” He pointed out that the goal of training second-year students is to expose them early to the gradual clinical application extending all over their years of study to link the basic information studied in lectures with the clinical part.
In turn, Dr. Jihad Mishal, Medical Director of Hclinic Specialty Hospital said: “The management and doctors of Hclinic Specialty Hospital believe in the importance of giving the best training opportunities and special attention to future doctors. Improving the capabilities and knowledge of medical students is the true indicator of the advancement of the health sector and the quality of services.”
This training comes within the framework of a cooperation agreement between the Arab American University and the Hclinic Specialty Hospital to train the University students of the Faculty of Medicine on its Ramallah and Jenin campuses. The terms of the agreement revolve around providing a high level of training to medical students in the clinical stage and before by the most skilled specialist doctors at Hclinic Specialty Hospital in the wards of internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, as well as specialized wards of orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, emergency, anesthesia, and diagnostic radiology.
