The Faculty of Graduate Studies at the Arab American University in Ramallah hosted the director of Technology and Operations Department at Quds Bank, Mr. Zaid Jrab, to deliver a lecture on digital transformation in the banking sector in Palestine.
Mr. Jrab discussed the prospects, opportunities and challenges facing the banking sector in the digital transformation process, saying: "The importance of the digital transformation process in this sector lies in facilitating citizens' access to banking services, improving the operational process, completing banking transactions, and the payment and purchasing process quickly." Mr. Jrab emphasized the role of universities in supplying the market with competencies and accelerating the process of digital transformation through research and projects conducted by students in related fields of knowledge such as data science, digitization, financial and banking sciences.
The questions and comments of the participating students included fundamental topics in the field of digital transformation, the most important of which was data confidentiality and the need to harmonize laws with the era of information revolution, in addition to the challenges facing workers in the information technology sector, which push them to work with non-local companies and thus delay the process of digital transformation.
Dr. Faisal Awartani, Executive Director of the Arab American University Center for Studies and Opinion Polls, said that the aim of the lecture is to enhance communication between the university and the local community. Dr. Awartani added: “This meeting is a continuation of a series of lectures and this represents an opportunity for students to stay informed of the developments of the labor market, discuss their opinions and express their suggestions which enhances their effective contribution to the process of economic and social development in Palestine.
It is worth noting that the Arab American University is organizing, in June, the first international conference on digital transformation, which will host a group of local and international experts and specialists in various fields of digital transformation. It will also shed light on the most important achievements in Palestine, and review the best practices in the fields of digital transformation at the global level and how to employ them in Palestine in various sectors.
