The Arab American University and International Acupuncture without Borders concluded a training course entitled "Treatment with Chinese acupuncture in the Ear to Treat Psychological Trauma" according to the NADA protocol. The training course was held in one of the halls of the University Medical Rehabilitation Complex on the university campus in Jenin.
The course, which was over three days, targeted physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychotherapists, doctors, university employees, governmental, and private institutions. The lecturers were Carla Silar, Director of Acupuncture without borders, via Skype, Dr. Nawal Awad, a specialist in Chinese medicine, Fadia Qamoa Rahal, an expert in Chinese medicine from the Palestinian interior, Ms. Ataf Awad, an expert in psychological counselling, and Dr. Wael Abu Hassan, a professor of health psychology at the Arab American University.
Dr. Abu Hassan explained that the course included scientific lectures, workshops, and training on the mechanism of pricking Chinese acupuncture and fixing mustard seed patches. He referred to the importance of cooperation with Palestinian and international institutions in acquiring the expertise of specialists. He also noted that the aim of the course is to raise awareness and highlight the importance and role of Chinese Medicine in the treatment of mental, behavioral, and physical diseases.
For their part, both Fadia Qamou Rahal, an expert in Chinese medicine, and Miss. Ataf Awad, an expert in psychological counselling, explained that acupuncture treatment in the ear according to the NADA protocol is beneficial for people who suffer from psychological trauma. In addition, this type of treatment activates and stimulates the processes of Self-healing, gives a feeling of relaxation, and improves the ability to focus.
They explained that the treatment takes place by inserting very thin and sterile needles into specific areas of the outer ear directly under the skin. They remain for half an hour, while the patient is lying on the treatment chair. They emphasized that this treatment is not a substitute for medical treatment in cases that require medical intervention.
For his part, Vice President of the Arab American University for Medical Faculties Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asia referred to the importance of this course, which targeted Palestinian specialists working at the University and in medical and health institutions in the West Bank. He indicated that the university always seeks to attract international institutions and organize training courses in cooperation with them to gain experience from them and transfer it to Palestinian experts and specialists.
