Researcher Rania Khaled Bannoura, a student in the master’s program in Neonatal Nursing, has defended her thesis titled “The Effectiveness of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) On Premature and Low Birth Weight Infants in the NICUs at Caritas Baby Hospital and Saint Joseph Hospital”.
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of kangaroo mother care on premature and low birth weight infants in the neonatal intensive care unit of Caritas Baby Hospital and Holy Family Hospital in the West Bank, Palestine.
The sample included 52 premature infants from Caritas Baby Hospital and Holy Family Hospital in the West Bank. The study results revealed the potential advantages of kangaroo care in promoting physiological well-being and stabilizing vital signs in neonates, thus endorsing its value as an adjunctive care procedure in neonatal health care settings.
The researcher has proven that kangaroo care positively affects all physiological signs of premature newborns and is essential for improving communication between mother and baby as well as controlling styles of sleeping.
The thesis was supervised by Dr. Najwa Soboh. The committee of examiners included Dr. Ahmed Batran and Dr. Faida Qutait.
