Faculty of Law at the Arab American University held an introductory workshop on Israeli laws in the occupied Palestinian territories in 1948, presented by the lawyer and president of Adalah Organization specialized in protecting the minority rights in the 1948occupied territory Hussein Abu Hussein, in presence of a group of students from the departments of Law and Jurisprudence.

The workshop was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Law Dr. Bashar Daragmeh and Head of the Public Law Department Dr. Hikmat Amarneh who started it by introducing Mr. Abu Hussein and its importance in enhancing students' culture and informing them about the Israeli laws inside the 1948 Palestine.
During the workshop, Mr. Abu Hussein talked about the security suspect or security detainee legal status under Israeli law and similarities with their legal status in the West Bank in terms of detention, informing suspect parents about the arrest, informing the lawyer, court procedures during the detention extension, suspect meeting his attorney, and lack of procedure fairness. He pointed, attorney’s presence during such procedures is tantamount to a false witness on the procedure that lacks criminal justice basics.
He also reviewed the strange legal situation of the Israeli political system, its projections on the West Bank, the legal situation affecting Palestinians and settlers, the legal disputes among them, the 1948 Palestinians legal status and exclude them from the decision-making circles, and affecting community movement.
Several questions were raised by the students about the laws differences between the security detainee from the 1948 Palestine and security detainee from the West Bank and violating the laws by Israeli authorities in distinguishing the detainee identity.
