The First Graduates from the Master in Data Sciences and Business Analytics Defend their Thesis

Ramzi Assaf, Nizar Shanaa and Helmi Darwish Haji are three students in the Master in Data Sciences and Business Analytics defended their thesis in Artificial Intelligence related fields.

Researcher Ramzi Assaf built a system that can predict the loans’ default in Bank of Palestine Ltd, as he collected many algorithms of supervised machine learning using data to train the program. The research concluded some great results that will benefit Bank of Palestine as they will predict if any loan request will not be fulfilled in the future.

Researcher Nizar Shanaa used the in-depth learning technology from the Palestinian telecommunication, to protect the informatics networks from being hacked. And on the other hand, researcher Helmi Darwish Haji combined the results of the algorithms of supervised machine learning with the supervision to protect the internet networks from hacking.

Researchers expressed their happiness to finish the requirements of this distinguish program provided by the Faculty of Graduate Studies in AAUP – Ramallah Campus especially since they are graduating from this program in Data Sciences and Business Analytics which is the first of its kind in Palestine.

Eng. Nizar Shanaa- the Director of Information Technology and Digitization Department at the Palestinian Telecommunications Company praised this program and the excellent staff from efficient and professional Palestinians and foreigners to the educational environment that continued even during the pandemic of corona.

Mr. Helmi Darwish Haji- the Director of Information Technology in the Palestinian Telecommunications Company explained that the program has broadened new ways in how to conclude future results according to huge number of data available at the company. He also said that this program will provide many new bright thoughts and opportunities in the future.

On the other hand, Ramzi Assaf- the Head of Technology and ATM Department at Bank of Palestine considered this program as quantum leap in the Data Sciences and Business Analytics field, especially that the bank sector in Palestine needs to develop their technological systems to follow up the digital development. He added that the bank sector needs such programs that provide the workers in this sector with the needed skills.

Dr. Mustafa AbuSalah- the Knowledge Management Consultant at CCC in Greece supervised the three researches and praised the efforts of AAUP in supporting the Palestinian community with new and promising skills.

Dr. AbuSalah added that the World Economic Forum has recommended six skills about the artificial intelligence, machine learning and data sciences out of the ten needed skills in the coming years.

Arab American University offers a Bachelor degree in Data Sciences and Statistics and a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence aiming to provide the local community and the researches with new professional skills and future opportunities.

It is worth to mention that Dr. Alaa Jaber from University of Stuttgart and Dr. Aysar Armiti from AnNajah National University were the external examiners for those three researches, whereas Dr. Mohammad Maree was the internal examiner.
