Monday, July 1, 2024

The Conflict Studies Research Center at the Arab American University in Ramallah has organized the latest film screening series for the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024.

The event included a screening of the film “Jenin, Jenin” by director Mohammad Bakri, which deals with the events of the invasion of Jenin camp in 2002, and sheds light on the suffering of the camp’s residents and the challenges during that period. The screening was followed by a discussion about the film presented by Sari Baz, a researcher in cinema and analysis of films that deal with political and social issues.

The event was concluded by announcing the names of the three winning students in the “Hero” competition, awarding, and presenting prizes to them. The competition aimed to motivate students to think critically and innovate, and encourage them to actively participate in academic activities that address political issues. The participants presented works of art of different colors to represent the Palestinian hero/heroes at the present time and the main characteristics that this character supports. The committee received various works that included: drawing, writing, production, photography as well as others.

It should be noted that the competition evaluation committee consisted of Dr. Saeed Abu Mualla, and Dr. Renad Shqirat, and Mr. Bara Azmouti. The student Wahaj Bani Mufleh won in the competition for his work “The Corner of the Dream,” student Hedaya Kamil for her work “Blood Leash” and student Safana Shahrouj for her work “The True Heroes.”

This event comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the University's Conflict Studies Research Center to enhance student engagement in conflict issues and increase awareness of what is happening in their context. Through these activities, the University seeks to raise the level of student awareness and interaction with issues related to conflict in the region, and reflects the University’s commitment to providing an interactive educational environment that encourages students to think critically and participate in discussions that contribute to a deeper understanding of the conflicts that affect their community as well as the entire world.
