A Tour in Ibn Sina Hospital “the Educational Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine in AAUP” to Monitor its Accomplishment level

Aiming to monitor the level of accomplishment that the hospital has reached, Mr. Akram Rjoub- Jenin Governor, Prof. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri- the University President and the accompanied delegation of the vice presidents, the assistants to president, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dr. Salem Abu Khayzran- the Head of the Board of Directors of Istishari Arab Hospital went in an inspection tour to Ibn Sina Specialized Hospital “the educational hospital for the Faculty of Medicine in Arab American University”.

The opening of “Ibn Sina Hospital” will be in order to provide training serves to AAUP students of the Faculty of Medicine in specific, and all students in all medical and healthcare faculties in general.

Prof. Abu Zuhri- the University President expressed how proud he is to see such an edifice in Jenin as Ibn Sina Hospital will be the educational hospital for AAUP students of the Faculty of Medicine. He assured that this cooperation and having a place for students to train in will contribute in graduating efficient doctors to work in the Palestinian labor market.

He said that AAUP Board of Directors is interested in excellence for the Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sina Hospital and that the university is ready to provide the needed support. Prof. Abu Zuhri thanked all those in charge of the hospital project, which will be a model not only in the northern West Bank, but at the national level too.

Mr. Akram Rjoub- Jenin’s Governor said that the recent Faculty of Medicine in Arab American University and Ibn Sina Hospital that will be opened soon will be a positive indicator that serves Jenin governorate and the whole country. He added that Jenin suffers from shortage in the health services, and the faculty of Medicine along with the Hospital in AAUP will contribute in improving the medical facilities and that will be in the service of the citizens of Jenin.

Dr. Salem Abu Khayzaran- the Head f the Board of Directors of Istishari Arab Hospital and the acting Head of the Board of Trustees of AAUP gave a detailed explanation on Ibn Sina Specialized Hospital and the obstacles it faced, and assured that the hospital will be open gradually starting from November and will be finished in early 2021 to plan for the official opening. Dr. Abu Khayzaran added that the hospital is a 7 floor building of 2000 m2 each, and will provide medical services for 400 thousand people in Jenin and the northern governorates. He explained that the goal of establishing such a great hospital is because Jenin needed quality medical services as Jenin is the least fortunate in terms of the number of beds in relation to the population, as it has 8-9 beds for every 10 thousand citizens, while the international rate is 20 beds for every 10 thousand persons, and added that the hospital will provide 200 beds that will serve the city.

He explained that Ibn Sina hospital will be the educational hospital that contains all medical fields, and expressed how proud he is in this cooperation between the hospital and the university.

Dr. Imad Dwaikat- the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in AAUP said that the faculty will be a distinguish one nationwide in terms of the scientific part, the clinical training and scientific research, in addition to providing serves to the local community. He added that the faculty will not only serve Jenin governorate, but all the cities of the West Bank as well, as the faculty is academically ready with comprehensive study plans. The instructions and bylaws for granting the BA in Medicine is now ready and the schedule will be uploaded on AAUP website. The Faculty of Medicine will be a separate faculty as constructions for the building will start soon.

Dr. Dwaikat also clarified that the team has finished the preparations to welcome new students in their new academic year. He said that they are still meeting to discuss the mechanisms to implement future plans for the coming years and explained that the Faculty will use only world-class devices with high specifications and students will be taught about the human beings body parts functionally, microbiology, pathogenesis, and drugs usage, etc. in addition to the clinical training that will be supervised by professional doctors from Ibn Sina Hospital.

The Delegation went into a tour around the departments of Ibn Sina Hospital to see its new accomplishment levels.
