Two academics from the Arab American University, Prof. Dr. Atef Qasrawi, and Prof. Dr. Hazem Khanfar, won the "Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research for 2022". The names of the winners of this award for the current year were announced by the Deanship of Scientific Research at the university.
The Dean of Scientific Research at the Arab American University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Awad, said that researchers from Palestinian universities competed for the award. They presented scientific research in the fields of natural Sciences, engineering and technological sciences, medical and health sciences, and social and human sciences. He explained that after examining the nomination applications for the award and evaluating them from a specialized committee, it was decided that two papers from each category would win.
The winners are as follows. In the category of medical and health sciences, the researchers, Dr. Mahmoud Quneibi, Dr. Othman Hamed, Dr. Nidal Jaradat, Dr. Muhammad Hawash, Ms. Rana Al Qurum, Ms. Rola Al Qurum, and Ms. Sama Tarzi from An-Najah National University won the award for a scientific research entitled, “Studying the Properties of the Biophysical Gate of the AMPA Receptor and its Connection Points: Focus is on New Turmeric-Based Azipines as Non-Competitive Antagonists”.
In the second research in the same category, the researchers from the Islamic University in Gaza, Professor Hadeel Abu Al-Ward, Dr. Nasser Al-Ashi, and Professor Dr. Fadl Al-Sharif won the award for their research which is entitled “Studying the Effect of Organic Phosphate Compounds on Cultures of Human Lymphocytes”.
In the category of natural, engineering, and technological sciences, the two researchers, Dr. Ishaq Sidr and Dr. Mahmoud Nassar, from Palestine Polytechnic University, won the award for their research which is entitled "Chemical Treatment of Bio-Derived Industrial Waste and Filling it With Recycled Low-Density Polyethylene: A Comparative Study". As for the second research In the same category, the two researchers, Prof. Dr. Atef Qasrawi, and Prof. Dr. Hazem Khanfar, from the Arab American University, won the award for their research which is entitled “Design of Tunnel-Broken Gap Devices Composed of Melbidonium Trioxide Coated with Zinc Phthalocyanine and Sandwiched Between Two Aluminium Sheets for the Purposes of Sensing Infrared Laser Radiation and Filtering Microwaves".
In the social and human sciences category, the researcher Dr. Maha Al-Samman from Al-Quds University won the award for her research which is entitled “From Moments of Time to Periods: The Effect of Israeli Checkpoints on the Daily Life of Palestinians in Jerusalem”. In the same category, Prof. Dr. Jameel Khidhr from Bethlehem University won the award for his research which is entitled “Architectural Contrast, Neoliberal Politics, and the Internationalization of the Palestinian Struggle: The Wald of Banksy Hotel”.
The Arab American University president, Prof. Dr. Ali Zedan Abu Zuhri, congratulated the winners of the Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research for this year. He explained that it is part of the university’s efforts to enhance the quality of scientific research for faculty members and researchers in Palestinian universities due to keenness to support original scientific research and a continuation of the university’s approach in Encouraging excellence and creativity, the Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research comes to support the university's pioneering role as a supporter of scientific research to reward distinguished researchers in Palestine.
He pointed out that the award aims to reward researchers in recognition of their research and scientific efforts in presenting a distinguished scientific or technical addition within the framework of original scientific research published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal with a distinguished reputation and a prestigious global classification. The criteria for granting the award depend on the qualitative addition that the researcher adds in his/her field of specialization, which raises his/her level in various aspects.
It should be noted that the Award for Excellence in Scientific Research is a prestigious award presented by the Arab American University to researchers in the Palestinian universities on annual bases.
