THE EFFECT OF BLOOD-FLOW RESTRICTION WALKS TRAINING ON INSULIN SENSITIVITY AND AEROBIC CAPACITY AMONG TYPE TWO DIABETES

Type two diabetes (T2D) has become a very common and widespread worldwide epidemic. Even though there is no cure for T2D, losing weight, eating well, and exercising can help the patients to manage it.

Different types of activities are considered an effective method to help in the prevention of T2D and to control the blood sugar in individuals with diabetes.

Muscles are important key elements for glucose homeostasis, as their insulin resistance is the major cause of T2D development. An appropriate endurance and resistance training is a major therapeutic modality for type 2 diabetes. The well-recognized strategy to improve muscle strength and glycemic control for individuals with T2D is the high-intensity resistance exercises with 80% one-repetition maximum 1-RM. Unfortunately, this is a high exercise load for elderly and obese individuals that cannot or is hard to meet.

Blood Flow Restriction training using the aerobic style is a training pattern where participants walk instead of performing resistance exercises, increasing muscle hypertrophy, strength, and endurance. Therefore, BFRw can be a promising alternative, safe, available, cheap, and effective method to help in the prevention of T2D and to control the blood sugar in individuals with diabetes and prevent further complications, increase the cardiovascular and respiratory capacity, and preserve skeletal muscle function to control blood glucose and improve muscle function. Moreover, it is a useful training modality in several patient groups who have restrictions to resistance training, such as the elderly at risk of sarcopenia.

By reviewing the recent researches on the effects of BFRw, conflicting results have been observed.

Thus, it is important to conduct more investigations to find more safely and accurately protocols considering the specific needs of each individual.

This study examines the effects of BFRw training on aerobic capacity and Insulin Sensitivity among individuals with T2D.

 An experimental approach to the problem method will be used. Thirty T2D participants will be divided statistically into two groups (condition-A with BFRw, and Non-condition). They will attend three treadmill walking sessions every week for eight weeks. The restriction cuff will be placed around both thighs proximally (condition A), with 80% Limb Occlusion Pressure. The Rockport One Mile Walking Test (Rockport Shoes Walking Institute, 1986) will find the aerobic capacity.

Descriptive statistics mean and standard deviation (SD) for all variables, the coefficient of variation, Paired t-test, One-way ANOVA, and the Least Significant Difference LSD. will be used. Statistical significance sets at P < 0.05.
