A Painting by the Caricaturist Mohammad Sabaaneh is Displayed in the Corridors of the United Nations

In the corridors of the United Nations and on the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Nakba, a painting by the Palestinian caricaturist and artist Mohammad Sabaaneh, an instructor in the Department of Architecture and Design at the Arab American University, was displayed alongside the works of Palestinian artists Naji Al-Ali, Ismail Shammout, Tamam Al-Akhal, Nabil Anani and Suleiman Mansour.

On the painting, Sabaaneh said: "Months ago, I received an invitation from my friend Majed Bamieh to draw a painting that embodies the Nakba to be displayed at the United Nations. I chose to adapt the famous painting "Guernica" by the artist Pablo Picasso in protest against the German bombarding of Spain, which has become a symbol of war and peace. He added, "I tried to embody the ongoing Palestinian Nakba through digital drawing, and used the blue-gray color to denote the Israeli occupation."

Mr. Mohammad Sabaaneh Participates in a Conference at the University of Exeter, UK, Entitled "Transformation of Solidarity"

The instructor in the Department of Architecture and Design and the Palestinian artist, Mohammad Sabaaneh, participated in the conference that was held in the British city of Exeter with the participation of a group of British and international academics, the most prominent of whom was Professor Ilan Pappé, the head of the conference.

Mr. Sabaaneh's participation was entitled "Palestinian Visual Art and its Role in Political and Social Change". In this participation, he presented the most important Palestinian experiences in this field, using visual arts as of the Nakba to the Palestinian Revolution, ending with his personal experience, reflecting on academic theories and experiences worldwide.

This came in an academic conference held by the Center for Arab Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter, entitled "The Transformation of Solidarity".

Students of the Interior Architecture program in AAUP that is offered as collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona – Italy, organized a field trip to Kofor Aqab old town – Jerusalem, as this trip contributes in enhancing the practical side of their specialization and it is part of the students’ project in the Design Elements course.

Eng. Rinad Shqairat, who teaches the “Design Elements and Forming” course at AAUP said that: “this visit to the old town aims to enhance the awareness of students of the main elements for forming through the architecture space, by watching and analyzing the Palestinian way of traditional buildings and traditional architecture.” She indicated that she invited Eng. Yara Bamia from Rawaq Institution, an institution works on reviving the old towns in Palestine, and Eng.
