A Painting by the Caricaturist Mohammad Sabaaneh is Displayed in the Corridors of the United Nations

In the corridors of the United Nations and on the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Nakba, a painting by the Palestinian caricaturist and artist Mohammad Sabaaneh, an instructor in the Department of Architecture and Design at the Arab American University, was displayed alongside the works of Palestinian artists Naji Al-Ali, Ismail Shammout, Tamam Al-Akhal, Nabil Anani and Suleiman Mansour.

On the painting, Sabaaneh said: "Months ago, I received an invitation from my friend Majed Bamieh to draw a painting that embodies the Nakba to be displayed at the United Nations. I chose to adapt the famous painting "Guernica" by the artist Pablo Picasso in protest against the German bombarding of Spain, which has become a symbol of war and peace. He added, "I tried to embody the ongoing Palestinian Nakba through digital drawing, and used the blue-gray color to denote the Israeli occupation."
