AAUP Announces The Beginning Of Preparations To Celebrate The International Environmental Day This June

The Excellence for Climate Change at The Arab American University announced the start of preparing to celebrate the international environment day by organizing a unique activity at AAUP's campus in Ramallah. Each year on this day, it's celebrated all over the world on the 5th of June.

This announcement was agreed on during a meeting that was held at AAUP's campus in Ramallah that the Excellence for Climate Change board of directors, representatives from the environmental quality authority "Al-Sharika”, water authority energy authority, meteorological directorate, ministry of agriculture, the nature of Palestine association, and the environmental education center attended.

AAUP and its Partners Lunch the Projects of "the Meteorological Station" and "the Smart Agriculture"

Arab American University and its partners the Palestinian Meteorological Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Energy, the Environmental Quality Authority and the Water Authority celebrated the launching of the two projects of “the Meteorological Station” and “the Smart Agriculture” in Jenin Campus.

Prof. Mohammad Asia- the Deputy Head of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technology and the VP for the Medical School Affairs in Arab American University said that “the launching of the two projects came as a result of the continuous support that the Board of Directors and especially the Chairman of the Board Dr. Yousef Asfour provided, and the efforts of the Center’s Board of Directors Headed by Prof. Waleed Deeb”.

The Board of Directors of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technology in AAUP holds their regular meeting in the university

The Board of Directors of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technology in AAUP held their regular meeting in AAUP Campus in Jenin to discuss the upcoming projects for the next period including the Novak and German projects. The members of the board also went in a field tour to the meteorological station, the greenhouse for smart agriculture, and the laboratory of the center which will be established before the end of the first half of this year.

The meeting was headed by Prof. Mohammad Asia- the Deputy Head of the Center, with the presence of the Board members, Dr. Jacqueleen Joubran and Dr. Iyad Yaqoub- from Arab American University, Eng. Yousef Abu Asaad - from the Palestinian Meteorological Department, Eng. Basil Yassin- from the Energy Authority, Eng. Hanan Hijawi- from the Environmental Quality Authority, Eng. Ibtisam Abu Haijaa- from the Ministry of Agriculture and Eng. Hazim Kettaneh- from the Water Authority.

The Board of Directors in the Center of Excellence for Climate Change in AAUP held their regular meeting to discuss the best site to establish a meteorological station in Arab American University – Jenin Campus. They also discussed the importance of smart agriculture and the ways to do it, the establishing of information database for climate change in Palestine and the future collaboration relations in the projects that the center implement with the governmental institutions and the local community.

The meeting was headed by Prof. Mohammad Asia- the VP for the Medical School Affairs and the Deputy Head of the center, with the presence of the Board members, Eng. Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technologies Center (ECCETC) organizes a scientific day at AAUP campus Ramallah, about Optimum use of water in agriculture by using new and modern technologies in this field.

This event aims to connect the scientific research with the Palestinian market needs in water field, with the participation of related Palestinian ministries, NGOs, the private sector and Palestinian universities.

Michelle de Vedson, an expert in the optimum use of water in agriculture, presented the scientific day in three main components, first climate excellence and the need to extract water for surface agriculture, second the foundations of smart agriculture and climate change.

Workshop about National policies in light of environment change and its impact on national security

The Policy and Conflict Resolution Studies Center at the Arab American University in Ramallah held a workshop entitled "National policies in light of environment change and its impact on national security " in cooperation with the Water Authority, Environmental Quality Authority, Energy Authority and Eco Palestine and with the attendance of representatives of official institutions and civil society.

The workshop was opened by a member of the Board of Directors from Policies and Conflict Resolution Studies Center at the University, Dr. Iyad Yacoub, were he welcomed the attendees. As he also discussed the role of the Center in the field of research in national policies in its various fields.

A lecture in the Arab American University, Ramallah Campus, to finalize the establishment of a research center for water and climate change

Arab American University Ramallah campus hosted a seminar for public sector and civil society organizations to discuss establishing a research center for water and climate change.

Experts in water and climate change, Water Authority representatives, Department of Meteorology, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Local Government, Water and Waste Water department in Nablus’s Municipality, representatives of academic institutions and representatives of GIZ International Water Program, all attended the lecture.
