The course aims to cover the concepts of the biochemical genetic and immunologic aspects of the ABO(H), Rh and other blood group antigens. Study of blood donors, blood and blood components and transfusion medicine will be provided. Blood bank regulations and basic problems relating to hemolytic disease of the newborn and component therapy will be discussed. Testing for the most common infectious diseases transmitted by blood or blood component will be tackled.
