100212660 GENETICS AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY ( 2 Crd.Hrs )

Pre-Requisites : 200312210

Discovery of an ever-rapidly growing fundamental and applied science; genetics/molecular biology, which is vital more particularly to medical sciences including dentistry. Classical Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics are explored with relevance to human genetic diseases beside the conceptual expression story from DNA to trait, human genome and diversity. Among the essential elements of this course are also recognition of genetics importance, variation, inheritance patterns with their medical applications as well as personalized health care. This course introduces for the treatment of genetic diseases as for example by manipulation of metabolism, increasing the function of the affected gene or protein, gene therapy and revolutionary techniques like RNAi, CRISPR, iPSCs…Selected genetics topics are evoked throughout the course like cancer, behaviour disorders and ethics with an additional focus on dento/oro/craniofacial anomalies. This course aims to serve health care through better understanding genetics and genetic diseases.
