Biography:
Dr. Abu-Jeib has spent his life since 1994 in teaching at a high school and at 4 universities in the United States and Palestine. Dr. Abu-Jeib taught high school from grades 7 to 12. He taught all university undergraduate levels, Master's level and the Ph.D. level. He taught in 6 departments at 4 universities. He taught Master's courses at 3 universities and Ph.D. at one university. He taught in departments of Mathematics & Statistics, Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science & Engineering, and Computer Information Sciences. Dr. Abu-Jeib received two awards for his contribution to students from the Parents' Association and the Teaching Council at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL). He received distinguished ratings from his peers at the State University of New York (SUNY). Dr. Abu-Jeib designed his own Website to help students that also worked as an E-learning tool. It has many programs written in different languages and a lot of information in Mathematics, Computer Science and other subjects. From the tracking, many students from all over the world use his Website daily. Professors also contact him sometimes requesting permission to use his material or his questions. The link for the Website is listed below. Dr. Abu-Jeib designed several online courses. These are available on his personal Website. Dr. Abu-Jeib received high teaching evaluations in the United States and was chosen at some stage by students at a Website to be the No. 2 best professor at the university. Dr. Abu-Jeib presented many seminars and colloquiums to peers. Dr. Abu-Jeib published 10 journal refereed papers. He discovered many theorems and several fast algorithms. He was cited as reference twice at wikipedia and once at wikizero. In two of the citings, his name was listed with 5 other well-known mathematicians around the world. He (together with Prof. Thomas Shores) managed to solve an open problem posed by the inventor of Sinc methods which famous mathematicians tried to tackle, but failed. Some of his theorems were listed in books and in Ph.D theses in Japan, Europe, and the United States. Dr. Abu-Jeib's research interests include (but not limited to) Numerical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Numerical Linear Algebra, algorithms. Dr. Abu-Jeib served (as a member or a chair) in many committees at all levels at 4 universities including graduate committees/councils, public relations, administrative committees, quality assurance, ranking committee, transcripts, certificates, and diplomas, etc. He also served as a Webmaster. He also served as a conference committee chair. He also was an Editor of a newsletter at SUNY. He also chaired Computer Contests competitions. He designed several websites from the scratch (without the help of any Web design program editors) and programmed software to be used for almuni to create their own homepages and list their profiles on a Web page, a software for creating homepages for faculty members and list their profiles on a Web page, and a software for designing new programs and new courses. He also created other or edited several regulations and bylaws, and designed new diplomas, certificates, and diplomas. He created many forms and designed criteria evaluations. He also served as a SUNY senator alternate and served as a grant Co-PI. On the community level, Dr. Abu-Jeib served on Committee Outreach committees and organized competitions for high school students. He also was offered by a certain list to run for the Palestinian Legislative Council. Dr. Abu-Jeib was offered several positions in academia, but he declined. They include: Department Chair, Acting Graduate Dean (in the summer), assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, assistant Vice President for Planning and Development, Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dean of Admission and Registration, Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Vice President for Planning , Development, and Scientific Research. He was also offered to chair a new Audit Committee. Dr. Abu-Jeib received about 20 awards, fellowships and recognitions from various institutions. Some of them were awarded several times. Dr. Abu-Jeib established two fellowships by the names of his late father and mother at two universities, and helped many students financially and by other means. Dr. Abu-Jeib was promoted to Associate Professor of Computer Science at SUNY and to Associate Professor of Mathematics at Birzeit University (which does not transfer promotions from anywhere). Dr. Abu-Jeib received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Birzeit University. He graduated with high distinction and was the first in the class (of all majors) that graduated that year (1994), He finished his first Master's degree in Computer Science from the American University (AU) in Washington DC. He graduated in 11 months with a GPA of 3.83 (out of 4). He was offered a Ph.D. fellowship by AU, but he declined. He earned his second Master's degree in Mathematics from UNL with 4.0 (out of 4) GPA. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics (with many Computer Science courses and with several more courses than required) with 3.96 GPA (out of 4). He finished his second Master's and his Ph.D. (doctorate) in 5 years (actually it was 4 years, but because he didn't apply for practical training, he asked to extend his stay at the university by one more year). Then, he was offered positions by two departments at the University (Mathematics & Statistics and Computer Science & Engineering).
