Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Samah Attari in the Physics Program

Researcher Samah Sameer Attari, a student in the master’s program in physics, has defended her thesis titled “"Iron Doping Effects on Bi_2 O_3 Optical Filters"

This thesis touched upon the effect of iron doping on the structural, morphological, compositional, optical and dielectric properties of bismuth oxide thin films. Bismuth oxide thin films with a thickness of 0.50 μm were deposited by thermal evaporation of bismuth oxide powders on glass substrates under a vacuum pressure of approximately 4-10 mbar. This was followed by doping the films with iron by mixing the iron nano-powders with the bismuth oxide powders before evaporation. The researcher used three increasing amounts of iron for this purpose.

Researcher Haneen Noman Jaradat, a student in the Master’s Program in Physics, has defended her thesis titled "Relaxation Dynamics in Quantum-dot Laser Subjected to External Effect (Optical Feedback)".

This research explores quantum-dot lasers that use quantum dots as active materials. Quantum-dot lasers operate based on tight confinement of charge carriers in quantum-dots, where a wide range of applications in medical imaging, sensing, quantum information processing and optical communications are found. Due to its vital role in disease treatment and optical imaging, in addition to its high capacity in data processing, new approaches are being used to improve its performance.

Prof. Atef Qasrawi

According to the recent announcement in ResearchGate, Prof. Atef Qasrawi- an AAUP Professor and Researcher in Physics and Nanotechnology was ranked amongst 2.5% best researchers for 2019 in the Scientists and Researchers list that contains almost 17 million scientists and graduate students from all over the world.

Prof. Atef Qasrawi, who is also a member of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence since 2013, said that “It is an honor for me to reach this level after the hard work and effort, especially with all the support from Arab American University, and I have been ranked previously top 5% between 5 million scientists and researchers in 2017.”

Prof. Qasrawi indicated that the ResearchGate assess the “ISI” publications in its evaluation, which are accredited by the international institution of Clarivate and Thomson Reuters for Statistics and Scientific Research.
