Master in Media and Mass Communication

Overview

This program will provide students with a broad understanding of the varied role of media and communication in society.

Master in Media and Communication exposes the students to an advance level in communication and media theory. The program is mainly focused on the interrelationship between media and communication in relation to social change, identity and globalization. It also deals with the history, content also the impact of different collective communication tools and methods, with a specific focus on mass media role in today societies.

The discipline places a great focus on the theoretical communication sciences, mass communication and communication studies. It also uses concepts from other disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, psychology, politics, economics, and philosophy. The program refers to the applied study of many different practices and technologies used to ease the communication of information for mass audiences.

All of these topics ties well with the university strategy to equip the graduate students with needed skills to develop the media sector and bridge the gaps between the market needs and graduate needs.

 

Goals

Upon successful completion of the master of MCS graduates will be able to:

  • Use technical and analytical approaches to analyses contemporary media industry issues in diver’s contexts.
  •  Critically evaluate media texts using adv. Knowledge of media and communications concepts and practice.
  • Interpret and communicate concepts and professional practice methodologies to specialist and non- specialist audience.
  • Deliver independent and collaborative projects with creativity and initiative, drawing on media production knowledge and skills.
  • Synthesize and integrate professional, research and theoretical skills in media and communications to design and implement scholarly and practical projects.
  • Apply high level ethical reasoning, professional responsibility and accountability to others in the execution of scholarly and practical projects.
  • Enable to develop a capacity to undertake independent research.

 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

Students graduated from this program will able to:

  1. Understanding how the boundaries of knowledge are advanced through research.
  2. Demonstrate and understanding of the role and functions of traditional and new media.
  3. Specialized methodological knowledge in media and communication studies.
  4. A systematic understanding of key constructs informing communication theory.
  5. The ability, both verbally and in writing, to report clearly and discuss the conclusions knowledge and arguments with different audiences.
  6. Understanding of how practice can be used to an effective communicator, writer, and spokesperson.
  7. Originality in the application of knowledge about communication within the media and communication context.
  8. The ability to deal with complex issues regarding aspects of communication and media systematically and creatively.
  9. The ability to make valuable contributions towards media and communications practice within complex or unpredictable environments.

 

Careers of Graduates

Student graduating from this program will be prepared for professional opportunities in research – led careers, education, academic careers, media and cultural industries or communication agencies national and international policy and production sectors, commercial and public service organizations and NGO’s. Above all, graduates will have the critical skill necessary to evaluate and understand media in a range of professional and private sphere.
