Financial Engineering

Overview

Financial engineering is the use of mathematical techniques to solve financial problems. Financial engineering uses tools and knowledge from the fields of computer science, statistics, economics, and applied mathematics to address current financial issues as well as to devise new and innovative financial products.

Moreover, Financial engineering is sometimes referred to as quantitative analysis and is used by regular commercial banks, investment banks, insurance agencies, and hedge funds.

Furthermore, the financial industry is always coming up with new and innovative investment tools and products for investors and companies. Most of the products have been developed through techniques in the field of financial engineering. Using mathematical modeling and computer engineering, financial engineers are able to test and issue new tools such as new methods of investment analysis, new debt offerings, new investments, new trading strategies, new financial models, etc.

Therefore, the program of Financial engineer designed to equip the student with need skills to enrich the Palestinian market with this new filed.

 

Goals

  • Strengthen the students’ understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of financial engineering.
  • Strengthen student’s knowledge of current issues and evolving trends and technologies in financial engineering and risk management.
  • Enable the student to apply fundamental skills and knowledge of finance, economics and risk management to design and lead financial engineering initiatives.
  • 4. Provide the student with the ability to apply financial engineering methods to enhance enterprise risk management and strategic objectives.
  • Provide the student with knowledge of the latest tools and techniques for creating innovative financial products.
  • Enable the student to propose financial engineering solutions to new financial and economic challenges.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental theories and business principles of finance and economics.
  2. Employ critical thinking to analyze emerging developments in financial engineering and evaluate the related opportunities and risks.
  3. Evaluate the trade-off between risk and return and employ statistical tools and techniques to seek opportunities for increased returns on investments.
  4. Assess an institution’s financial needs and goals and propose specific financial engineering and risk management products.
  5. Apply analytical skills to evaluate financial engineering products and choose from several alternatives.
  6. Develop ability to design innovative financial engineering projects and to measure their impact on a financial institution.
  7. Develop leadership and management practices that promote innovation and change in financial engineering.
