Diploma in Dental Assistance

Overview

It is one of the intermediate diploma programs that will contribute to achieving the university's vision and goals and participating in the community development process.

As a continuation of the scientific career of the Faculty of Dentistry at the Arab American University and the specializations needed by the labor market in the country, those in charge of the Faculty of Dentistry have placed utmost importance on launching a program that grants an intermediate diploma degree "dental assistant" with scientific and international standards.

In addition, the Arab American University is able to provide all requirements for the program, including buildings, equipment's, and the teaching and administrative staff.

 

Goals

Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to achieve the outputs of knowledge and understanding, Psychomotor and affective skills:

  1. Cognitive Domain
    • understand the basic concepts of infection control and sterilization within the dental office.
    • Select the best way to operate according to occupational safety and health standards.
  2. Psychomotor Domain
    • Observe the various dental procedures applied within the dental office.
    • Conduct the various tasks -that should be performed by the dental assistant- naturally.
  3. Affective Domain
    • Participates in class discussion, shows interest in subject, enjoys helping the team, and follows safety policies.
    • Displays self- reliance in working independently.

 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

By the end of the two-year program, the graduates are expected to be able to:

  1. Apply infection control measures within the dental office.
  2. Clean, sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment.
  3. Assist the dentists at chair side with basic dental procedures including (restorative treatment, endodontic treatment, impression preparation and extractions).
  4. Perform certain laboratory procedures.
  5. make appointments, keeping records, and supervising general office procedures.
  6. carry out certain phases of treatment (Under the direct supervision of the dentist).

 

Careers of Graduates

This program will gain its graduates the knowledge to fill the needs of the labor market and they can work especially in the following areas:

  1. Private dental clinics/centers.
  2. University clinical centers
  3. At governmental clinics and clinics of the Ministry of Health
  4. Governmental and private hospitals.
