The Continuing Education Center at the Arab American University, in cooperation with the Civil Defense in Jenin, organized a workshop for university staff and students entitled "Natural Disasters and Crisis Management", with the aim of educating the public about crisis management mechanisms in cases of earthquakes.
In his turn, the Director of the Continuing Education Center at the University, Dr. Khaled Attiah, welcomed the attendees, and stressed the importance of the workshop, which has several objectives, most notably, educating employees and students on crisis management mechanisms in the event of earthquakes as Palestine is vulnerable to the occurrence of this natural disaster at any time.
Colonel Rabab Salameh, Director of Public Safety in the Civil Defense, and Colonel Samar Abu Shamla, Director of Disaster and Crisis Management in the Civil Defense spoke in the workshop and confirmed that Palestine as well as the neighboring countries are vulnerable to earthquakes at any time. They also added that no one knows when earthquakes happen, but everyone must be aware of how to manage the crisis in the event of natural disasters, especially since the State of Palestine is under occupation, and it is possible for foreign aid to arrive late. The speakers discussed the factors that increase the impact of earthquakes, the risks resulting from them, and the mechanism of preparation in the event of an earthquake.
