Under collaboration with Mak International
In a ceremony organized by the Faculty of Dentistry, the Quality Department in AAUP and Mak International, Arab American University announced the beginning of the procedures to get the ADEE Leader- The Dental Excellence Program.
Representing the University President Prof. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri, Dr. Mo’ayad AbuSaa- the VP for Academic Affairs attended the ceremony along with Prof. Mohammad Asia- the VP for the Medical Schools Affairs, Dr. Ameed Abu Ali- the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Eng. Yasmeen AbuBaker- the CEO of Mak International, Dr. Nibal Sabri- the ADEE Leader Advisor, Eng. Mays Awad- the Quality Department Manager in AAUP, the staff of the Faculty of Dentistry and AAUP staff and Faculty members.
The ceremony started with the national anthem, then Hiba Al Jazara- employee in the AAUP Radio and TV Department welcomed the guests and introduced Dr. Mo’ayad AbuSaa who started his speech by welcoming the guests on the behalf of AAUP President and transferred the greetings of the Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Yousef Asfour and said: “our celebration today is on the occasion of the beginning of working to getting the ADEE Leader program while AAUP is still celebrating its 20th anniversary, especially that the Faculty of Dentistry is one of the great faculties of AAUP since its first days”. Dr. AbuSaa indicated that AAUP faced many obstacles as it was a dream from the first place to have a university in Jenin, the dream was achieved and now AAUP is working to achieve more dreams.
He added: “AAUP always seeks to develop its academic and scientific research fields and opens new unique programs. The university also improves its current programs by international accreditations such as the ISO and then ABET for the Faculty of Engineering, and today, we announce the beginning of the procedures to get the ADEE Leader- the Dental Excellence Program. We contacted Mak International which is a company that specializes in international standards in order to help us in doing the assessment to know what is best for AAUP in general and for the Faculty of Dentistry in specific according to the international standards and specifications”.
Prof. Mohammad Asia- the VP for the Medical Schools Affairs said that this program is very important to the medical schools and to AAUP, and added that AAUP always supports getting new accreditations and one of them is the ADEE Leader. Prof. Asia sees that ADEE Leader will develop the Faculty of Dentistry and will enable it to graduate a new generation capable to manage the labor market and be special and distinguish in this field.
Prof. Asia added that ADEE Leader will not be only on paper, it is a change that will be applied and reflected in the academic programs and on its outcomes, as this program will be applied on three levels, the study plan, the courses and the infrastructure.
The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Ameed Abu Ali said: “the Faculty of Dentistry in AAUP is about to crown its 20th year of excellence by getting the distinguish accreditation officially, and by adding our Faculty to the list besides the international schools. Since its establishment, the Faculty of Dentistry was supported by the Board of Directors continuously, and it kept on providing developments in all areas on the governorate level, on the students’ level and on the academic and staff levels, in addition, the faculty provided the best and most modern devices and was developing the curriculum accordingly in a continuous way”.
Dr. Abu Ali added: “in light of such achievements and successes, the Faculty aimed to find an official place for itself among the international Dentistry schools and so two years ago the search started to get an accreditation that will cover all the fields of achievements of the faculty during the past 20 years. This was the primary motivation to getting the ADEE Leader program”. He clarified that the Faculty had an agreement with Mak International to start the procedures to getting the assessment and then having first results to this accreditation.
Moreover, Dr. Abu Ali said that the team was divided into groups to follow up the work on the files, the vaccination, the control of infection in the Faculty’s facilities, the patients’ management, the study plan, the OSCE exam, the final reports preparations and the quality file. Those teams had daily meetings, organized field visits and prepared and sent official notes to collect as much information as possible to reflect what is needed and process it correctly.
Eng. Yasmeen AbuBaker- the CEO of Mak International expressed how proud she is to have collaboration relations with Arab American University since 2013 as the collaboration started when AAUP got the ISO 9001 and now AAUP is working to get the ADEE Leader, and soon we will be celebrating this accreditation especially because AAUP is always committed to the international standards and specifications. Eng. AbuBaker added that Dr. Nibal Sabri the advisor of this program has recommended that Arab American University is capable to get the accreditation and that AAUP will be persistence to get its goals.
In her speech, the Advisor of the ADEE Leader program Dr. Nibal Sabri said: “The decision that AAUP took to get the ADEE Leader is a wise step towards achieving the university’s vision to level up the academic level of the Faculty of Dentistry to be equal to the international dentistry schools and the Europeans. She also talked about her regular visits to the university and the meetings with the staff and teams how she was able to see the facilities and the infrastructure of the Faculty of Dentistry in specific. Additionally, Dr. Sabri thinks that AAUP will be able to achieve the European accreditation according to its current strategic vision.
She concluded by saying: “we put the plans, we designed the programs, we prepared the teams and we got some outputs in the different files related to developing the curriculum of the Faculty of Dentistry, and I will look forward to keep working with the same pace and steady steps to achieve the goal.”
Eng. Mays Awad- the Quality Department Manager in AAUP said: “this celebration comes as a result of the efforts of staff who did the researches, the planning and the continuous work to reach this point that reflects also the interest of AAUP in developing and uniqueness”. Eng. Jarrar mentioned that Arab American University was the first Palestinian university to get the ISO 9001 and now it is working on the requirements to get the ADEE LEADER.
After the ceremony, a workshop under the name “Controlling Infection in the Facilities of the Faculty of Dentistry” was organized as a first step to getting the ADEE Leader.
