The Department of Arabic Language and Media at the Arab American University has held a workshop for its students on effective presentation skills, presented by life skills trainer Ahmed Al Sadda via Zoom platform.
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education, Dr. Jamal Hanaysheh, said “Effective presentations are important for a person throughout his life, and are a recipe for success in academic, professional and personal life. The University, through these activities, is keen to present graduates to society who possess knowledge and skills and put them on the path to creating their successes and building their country.”
In turn, the director of the Arabic Language and Media Department, Mr. Sudqi Mousa said that presentation skills are considered basic for university students, which some students ignore and deal with these skills superficially and carelessly.
Mr. Mousa added that it is necessary for students to master effective presentation skills in the era of technological progress and high competition in order to excel in presenting their academic duties and graduation projects. Presentation skills are also important in employment interviews, and raise students’ credit at work and success in their professional life, through which students market their skills and demonstrate their ability to communicate and create ideas. These are among the skills that owners of institutions and projects are keen to have in their employees. He added.
In turn, Trainer Ahmed Al Sadda discussed with the participating students the concept of presentation skills and their importance in conveying ideas and information, how to invest types of presentation in influencing the target audience and how to employ presentation methods and diversify their inclusion during presentations to ensure increasing their effectiveness on the audience.
Al Sadda provided advice to the students in order to enhance their skills and abilities in making presentations in their university lectures and their professional life and how to formulate and prepare presentations at their various stages.
Al Sadda continued saying that the more students master presentation skills, the more confident they become and their ability to speak in front of an audience and delve into various topics. Possessing these skills makes it easier for students to spend time and effort preparing to present what they are requested to do in lectures, and qualifies them for the labor market and to market their skills and abilities. It is also an important factor in their social success.
The meeting included topics, such as the concept of “presentation,” types and forms of presentation, matters that students should take into consideration when preparing for the presentation, skills for preparing for the presentation (pre-presentation stage), specifications for good content, methods for building strong interaction with the audience, and modern presentation methods as well as body language during presentation and how to get feedback and evaluate the presentation.
