AAUP Launches the Palestinian Day for Media Simulation in Ramallah Campus

In a ceremony that was organized in Arab American University- Ramallah Campus, the Faculty of Modern Media in AAUP launched the activities of “the Palestinian Day for Media Simulation” that continued for two days.

This activity was organized under joint partnership with the Ministry of Education and some media organizations and educational institutions in Ramallah which are interested in media education. The activities targeted the high school students in public and private schools in Ramallah, Albireh, Jerusalem and Birzeit.

The activities of “The Palestinian Day for Media Simulation” aim to create an area of communication between high school students and the media and civil organizations in order to introduce students to such organizations and how they perform.

The meeting introduced students who are being prepared to start the university experience in the different areas including the three programs of Faculty of Modern Media which are: “Digital Media, Public Relations and Communication and Social Media” in addition to introduce students to the traditional and digital media organizations and open communication channels with them.

The activities started with a speech from the Dr. Muayad Abusaa- the Acting President and the VP for Academic Affairs as he welcomed the guests and the partner organizations.

He added: “Arab American University is always keen to participate in many activities to instill its community role in addition to its academic and educational role and to provide the Palestinian society with unique and special academic programs that fulfill the needs of the Palestinian, Arab and international markets”.

Dr. Abusaa added: “The university allows the using of its facilities, buildings, centers, labs and services centers for the local community”.

He also clarified that the university tries to connect with the local community through this Media Simulation day, and he appreciated the collaboration of the Ministry of Education with the university to make this activity successful and thanked the partner media organizations for their role in such event. 

Dr. Abusaa emphasized on the importance of the partnership to serve the Palestinian community and this is what the university is doing. He said that the university supports all that serves in developing the skills of students to be able to move to the labor market equipped with enough skills to be effective and productive.

Dr. Hanadi Dwaikat- the Dean of the Faculty of Modern Media in AAUP stressed on the importance of the activities of the Palestinian Day for Media Simulation, and said: “We in Arab American University do not spend our time in educating students in classes only, but also we think in how to extend this teaching outside the university to benefit the Palestinian community. The university offers its students non-limit numbers of courses, workshops, fairs, and work environments and this would not be successful without the partnerships with other Palestinian and Arab organizations that we share efforts with”.

She added that the university wanted to extend the targeted groups to conclude the school students and participate them in the knowledge and education in such activities that the university organizes, and the idea of the Palestinian Day for Media Simulation came to light to provide an area for media education.

Dr. Dwaikat praised the role of the partner organizations which are the media organizations, Palestine TV, Fajer TV, Wattan News, Alhaya News, Ajyal network, Jerusalem 24, in addition to the community, civil and educational organizations such as BYALARA, Burj Alluqluq Social Center Society from Jerusalem, Yassir Arafat Museum, Sharek Youth Forum and Palestinian Vision Organization. Moreover, some special individuals participated who has good experience in this field such as Alaa Badarneh- the photographer and Rabee Jaradat- the Graphic Designer.

Dr. Dwaikat concluded her speech by emphasizing that the activities will be planned annually with the partners, and said that this event will be the start of a new special digital media effort that will be announced about soon.

In the guest of honor representation, Mr. Hassan Jadda- the Founder and Manager of Social Studio Company presented the importance of the digital media and said that the world has become a digital one that fulfill the needs of citizens through the internet and modern mobiles.

Jadda added that there are new positions that were not available during the past years but became important nowadays, and new positions will also appear during the coming five years including data analysis, content industry and e-commerce and more of the areas that the Palestinian, regional and international markets are missing currently.

He also asked students to look for the specializations that the Palestinian, regional and international markets are missing in order to join them.

During the first day of the activity, 300 students from public and private schools in their higher school years attended the event.

The ceremony was followed by opening the booths of the different participated media and civil organizations as they provided their working styles and the tasks they provide to the Palestinian community, and other parts of the fair were about the programs of the Faculty of Modern Media in order to inform students how the labor market needs such programs.

The media organizations presented a show about their working mechanisms, about the methods of broadcasting, photography, directing, sound recording and digital presentations in the different shapes and forms of digital media.

Students took a tour in the photography fair under the name “Can you tell the difference?!” and it included pictures from different places from the historical Palestine that were blended with each other in a way to offer viewers a chance to know the places of the photos in the divided geography of Palestine that was divided by the occupation.

Next Thursday will also have more simulation sessions that will offer new groups of high school students the knowledge and awareness related to the media that is part of our daily lives.
