AAUP Organizes the Final Ceremony for the Competition of the Best Idea of a Technological Application in the Medical Field "DocTech"

Hassib Sbbagh Center and IEEE- AAUP organized the final ceremony for the best technological application in the medical field DocTech under collaboration with Israa Programming Company and Spark for Consultation and Training.

The ceremony was under the auspices of Prof. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri- the University President and during the ceremony, the three teams which won the first places in the competition were announced knowing that 20 teams from AAUP participated in this competition. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Moayad Abu Saa- the VP for Academic Affairs representing the President, Eng. Muhannad Hijawi- the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hassib Sabbagh Center, Dr. Muna Dumaidi- representing IEEE- Palestine, Dr. Wisam Sbaihat- the Health Director of Jenin Governorate and Mr. Bassam Walwil- the Head of Palestinian Federation of Industries.

In the opening session of the ceremony, Dr. Moayyad Abu Saa performed his speech on behalf of Prof. Abu Zuhri and he welcomed the guests and thanked everyone who was part of the success of this competition. He said that among the strategic steps that AAUP is following, is to support the pioneer projects, and this will be clear in working and supporting Hassib Sabbagh to develop pioneer ideas for pioneer projects. He clarified that there will be a clear collaboration with Hassib Sabbagh to develop pioneer ideas and support more ideas, and he welcomed on behalf of the university any service or idea that will benefit the local community.

Eng. Muhannad Hijawi thanked the University for its continuous support to the pioneer projects and ensured on the importance of supporting pioneers. He said comforted the participants that even if they did not win the competition, this should not be the end, but the beginning to develop the project in a better way and learn from the previous mistakes. He mentioned that the self improving can be through reading and the continuous search for the best, and said that the world is currently trying to automating information, and even the governmental Palestinian organizations are trying to do such step, and he finally asked students to focus on such a topic in a deep way.

Dr. Muna Dumaidi- representing IEEE- Palestine introduced the Institution to guests and said that the institution started in 2009 from An Najah National University and currently is working in the Palestinian universities in general. She said that a great part of the members of this institution are from Arab American University and expressed her pride in the university that always supports its students, and that the institution has participated in many international competitions during the past year and this indicates that students are capable to participate internationally. 

Mr. Sami Awad- a member of the Board of Directors of Hassib Sabbagh Center expressed his pride to see that many students have pioneer qualitative ideas that they offered in this competition. And even if they had some problems in their projects, this does not mean that this is the end of the way, but the beginning of fixing the problems and developing their projects to participate in future contests internationally.  

The Health Director of Jenin Governorate, Dr. Wissam Sbaihat emphasized on the importance of supporting these pioneer young people and supporting their projects, especially because the country needs such creative youth people and should provide opportunities for them. He also talked about the digital projects that the Ministry of Health performs and expressed the readiness of the Ministry to support the applications to serve the Palestinian citizen in the Health field.

Mr. Bassam Walwil- the Head of Palestinian Federation of Industries explained that 93% of the projects in Palestine started as small businesses and then developed to be large projects and so created a lot of job opportunities to the Palestinian people because of their determination to reach success. He also asked to support the youth projects and asked the government to decide laws and regulations to encourage pioneer projects.

At the end of the ceremony, the top three teams in the best idea of a technological application in the health field were announced and they are: LANGSMART، HEARE US، CHRONIC HEALTH.

This competition is a competition for all AAUP students as teams are competing to prepare and develop pioneer ideas related to the smart phone applications. Each year the challenge is decided to be in a new topic or field, such as the medical field, technological field and educational, and the team must be of two persons minimum or four as a max. The competition of this year was in the health field and 20 different teams, where six teams were selected at the first phase and then three teams won the competition and won financial prizes in addition to a support from Hassib Sabbagh Center for their applications to be implemented.
