Arab American University took part in a workshop about “Empowering Women, Enhancing Discourse and Renouncing Violence in the Higher Education Institutions” that was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research among (Woleod 3) project that is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS)

In the 2 days workshop, participants discussed the ways to address the violence problem among students of the higher education institutions and to enhance discourse. The workshop also continued I discussing topics from previous workshops that are related to empowering female students to participate in the university life and be part of the student council elections. Part of the workshop was about training to students in the fields of enhancing discourse language and renouncing violence from a gender perspective.

Participants recommended the importance of encouraging female students to be part of the student council until the election systems are being edited, and to guarantee the minimum participation of female students. They also recommended having workshops for the Palestinian student movement in its all parties, and organizing awareness workshops to limit violence.

In the workshop, AAUP was represented by Dr. Bashar Daraghmeh- the Dean of the Student Affairs, Mr. Bilal Al Ashqar- the Head of the Graduate Affairs Department and Mohammad Abu Zant- the Head of the Student Council with the presence of Prof. Mahmoud Abu Mwais- the Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Amal Hamad- the Minister of Women Affairs, Dr. Moammar Ishtawy- the Head of AQAC and Dr. Ali Abu Kaf- Representing AICS.

It is worth mentioning that (Woleod 3) project includes organizing workshops in women empowering and local development, in addition to funding projects related to economic empowerment for female students.
