AAUP Wins the First Three Places in IEEE Pioneers Region 8

After participating in “Pioneersregion 8” contest, Arab American University won the first three places. This contest was organized by IEEE – AAUP branch under collaboration with An Najah National University branch and Birzeit University branch in the Palestinian-Indian Technology Park in Birzeit University which was organized under sponsorship of Jawwal and the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology.

Dr. Ishaq Seder- the Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology, Eng. Adnan Samarah- the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Creativity and Excellence and Dr. Muath Sabha from Arab American University attended the final ceremony.

This competition is specialized in Business pioneer and startups and participants must prepare and provide startup ideas that revolve around solving an environmental, social, educational or health problem with the usage of technology and pioneering.

Arab American University won the first three places in the first stage of the competition that was held virtually through videos. Greeners team won the first place in the competition, the team of Aysar Daqqa, Lina Zahayqa, Haytham Sharabat and Nour Daraghmeh. Greeners is a project about a Palestinian startup company that provides an environmental friendly biological fertilizers that are manufactured in a creative way through the usage of Carbon Dioxide emissions during manufacturing and so will reduce global warming, and this is done by providing experts and agricultural engineers to provide guidance services for farmers.

No Limits team of Maria Amouri, Dima Abujaber, Jihad Abuzuhri and Muhaimen Khatib got the second place as they presented a project about a smart application that breaks the gap between deaf people and the community to facilitate communication with them.

Lang Smart team won the third place and this team of Laith Nazzal and Anwar Ghannam had an idea about an application to treat hearing and speaking problems using artificial intelligence. The three teams were qualified to represent Palestine internationally.

The second phase of the competition was organized physically and Mood setting team won the first place with another team. This team of Shawq Balawneh, Dina Nuerat and Adan Alawneh presented a project about a smart interactive application that helps in treating depression through activities for the different age categories.

IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, it focuses on technology and offers many trainings, symposiums, courses, competitions, fairs and activities. IEEE keeps up with the technology and qualifies students to the labor market.

The three teams who won the first three places got financial awards from Jawwal, and the team who won the first place in the second phase got a financial award from Sub-Section Palestine with a support for six months from the Palestinian Technology Park.

The Faculty of Engineering congratulated the participated teams for their pioneer and inspiring achievements and emphasized that there will be other opportunities for the other teams to participate and compete again with their project after developing them.
