In order to improve the agriculture environment in the university, Arab American University established an agriculture house that depends mainly on the artificial intelligence. The idea of this house is to register accurate and correct readings of the needs of the plants from water to fertilizers to fight pests and diseases, and this will lead to increasing the agricultural production in Palestine in general and in Jenin governorate specifically.
This agriculture house is considered to be an important station to the agricultural researches for students and professors of the related fields and to those who are interested in the field from the different Palestinian ministries.
Prof. Mohammad Asia- the VP for Medical Schools Affairs explained that this house was established by Arab American University especially after the joint discussion between AAUP, the Ministries of Agriculture, Water, Energy and Environment, the Palestinian Meteorology through the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technology that was established in the university two years ago aiming to face the developments of climate change that is considered to part of the important dilemmas that face the world. Prof. Asia also added that this unusual change might threat the agriculture, food and economic production, and this might be caused because of different issues such as high levels of water, or dryness, or higher or lower temperatures or even soil and plants diseases.
Prof. Asia added: “Out of its interest to really face and solve the problem, Arab American University established three distinguish projects in this field which are AAUP Weather Station that can provide daily weather expectations, in addition to temperature expectations for the following 14 days, the humidity, wind speed and the rain amount in the different areas”. He explained that this weather station is considered to be the first of its kind in Palestine for its perfect location and it connection to the satellite to provide the accurate information about weather, in addition to information related to the soil moisture, soil dryness, and plant diseases aiming to help the Palestinian farmers in their daily activities in farming lands.
Furthermore, Prof. Asia said that AAUP established the agriculture house that depends on the artificial intelligence in order to improve the agriculture environment. He indicated that the University prepared a special center for environmental technology that can provide the specialists, researchers, ministries and farmers with important information to increase the agricultural production improve its quality and efficiency and serve the agricultural development.
Additionally, Prof. Asia clarified: “By establishing these projects, Arab American University has stepped an important and leading step towards the development and modernizing education that is based on scientific research and using technology, to provide the labor market with the required and needed specializations of high qualification and training”.
At the end, Prof. Asia praised the role of the Board of Directors of AAUP that always support the vision with the needed financial costs, and praised the efforts of staff and specialists from the Faculty of IT who contributed in the technological preparations for the smart agriculture house.
