The Head of the Economic Development Sector at the European Union Representative Office in Jerusalem, Ms. Sophie Otti, and her accompanying delegation, have visited the Arab American University and the Hassib Sabbagh IT Center of Excellence at the University. This visit aimed at discussing ways of joint cooperation between the two parties. The delegation was received by the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Muayad Abusaa, member of the Board of Directors of Hassib Sabbagh, Mr. Sami Awad, and the General Director of the Center, Engineer Mays Awwad.
The European delegation included the Director of Investment and Entrepreneurship Programs Mitya Jorginbauer, Director of the Economic Flexibility and Green Economy Program Johnny Basil, and Investment Advisor, Chris Zaknoun.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Abusaa welcomed the guests and gave them an overview of the University, its establishment, its philosophy, the faculties and the academic programs it offers, which are chosen within a strategic plan that takes into account the needs of the Palestinian labor market on the one hand and is distinguished by its rarity and keeping pace with global developments on the other hand.
The visiting delegation headed to the Hassib Sabbagh IT Center of Excellence, where engineer Mays Awwad gave a detailed presentation about the Center’s activities and events as well as the Center’s operational plan. Means of joint cooperation were discussed as such a cooperation would contribute to empowering Palestinian youth, especially students of the Arab American University, which would contribute to developing and modernizing the reality of education and achieving better opportunities for students and graduates to obtain jobs by linking the academic and training aspect to the employment needs in Palestinian and international institutions and companies, especially in the fields of technology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and supporting emerging entrepreneurial companies in addition to embracing and empowering entrepreneurial and innovative youth projects.
In turn, Mrs. Sophia Otti, Head of the Economic Development Sector at the European Union Representative Office in Jerusalem, and the accompanying delegation thanked her for the respectable reception and expressed their happiness for visiting Jenin Governorate in general and the Arab American University and the Hassib Sabbagh IT Center of Excellence at the University in particular. She stressed the importance of cooperation with the aim of strengthening developing the reality of education and empowering youth with leadership and technology in Palestine.
