Physio and Occupational Therapy Students at the University Start Projects for Producing Support Devices for People With Disabilities to Facilitate Their Daily Lives

The Faculty of Allied Medical Science organized an open day for the projects of allied devices presented by physical and occupational therapy students, where they produced devices and tools that help people with special needs.

Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences and Nursing Dr. Mohammed Asia said: "These outstanding projects reflect the students' competence, skills and ability to undertake innovative equipment and tools to help patients overcome their problems."

He said that the curricula and methods of education used in teaching students at the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences is the best in Palestine, It has been developed within the framework of plans and studies to suit the international teaching methods in supporting medical fields, and to graduate students with a high level of science and skills that enable them to enter the local, regional and international labor market, and the required additions and excellence in each field and specialization.

The exhibition included many projects and devices produced, modification and created by the students using physiotherapy and occupational tools to be accessible to all patients in terms of prices, where the devices produced from international companies are expensive and often difficult to obtain for its high prices and not available in the Palestinian market. The exhibition included the following projects:

Wheel Chair for Children: Special chair for children with cerebral palsy, head injuries and dorsal opening to maintain proper strength and ease of sitting to eat and play.

A walking device with a table: it is used for older people and those with balance problems, which helps them to ease movement and the possibility of moving some things on the table while walking.

Table light: it’s used for people that lack vision and can’t distinguish some colors, where it helps to increase the focus and distinguish things. This table is used during therapeutic sessions.

Mobile Hand Holder: This device is used for people with upper body problems whether it is weakness of muscles or nerve problems and helps the patient to increase the concentration and control of the upper limb of the body.

The modified Trampoline: This device is used for children who have excessive movement and energy, which helps to reduce the excessive movement with a stand for the safety of the child.

Sign Language Program: A software program for people with hearing and speech problems that helps them to communicate with ordinary people and helps people learn the deaf language.

Bowling game for cerebral palsy children: This device is used to help children with cerebral palsy and wheelchair users to play bowling, which helps to improve their interactive activities.

A Smart device for walking and protects from falling: The device is used for people with strokes and headaches and balance problems, which helps them to move freely and builds self-confidence without the need for people to help them walk, which increases the independence, (the device is not Registered Worldwide).

The smart hat or a walk-sensor device that’s placed on the head: This device is used for people with visual disabilities, which helps them to move easily without the need for blind sticks or other people, where it gives an alert sound during walking to nearby objects (the device is not registered Worldwide).

Parking device: A parking device for children with cerebral palsy, head injury and aperture, which helps children to stand and protects their body from distractions and maintains the proper strength of children.

Electric Wheel-chair for cerebral palsy children: The chair is used with a children's car to play and interact with other people where the child can play safely.

Voice communication device: This device is used for people with strokes and talking disabilities. The patient helps to communicate with the surrounding environment for special needs as in “I want help or I want to go to the bathroom”, based on a voice recorder. (the device is not registered Worldwide).

A Child carriage with a Wheel-Chair: the carriage is with the mothers that use wheel-chairs which it helps them to move safely with their children.

A mobile Bed: This device is used for children with cerebral palsy, spinal injuries and head injuries, which helps to change the angle of movement in the device and move inside the house and the position of sleep without any help.

Cerebral Palsy Chair: This chair is used for children with cerebral palsy to help them with proper sitting, eating and playing as it is used for therapeutic sessions.
