The Weather Station in Arab American University Starts its Work

Arab American University announced that the weather station has started working as part of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technology (CECCET) that was established two years ago in AAUP campus.

The weather station in AAUP is considered to be the first of its kind in Palestine for its perfect location and it connection to the satellite to provide the accurate information about weather, in addition to information related to the soil moisture, soil dryness, and plant diseases aiming to help the Palestinian farmers in their daily activities in farming lands.

Prof. Mohammad Asia- the VP for Medical Schools Affairs said that the beginning of the work in the weather station in the campus is a huge achievement added to the academic, research and local and international partnership achievements of Arab American University.

Prof. Asia explained that the station can provide daily weather expectations and news for the Palestinian citizens, in addition to temperature expectations for the following 14 days, the humidity, wind speed and the rain amount in the different areas.

Moreover, Prof. Asia ensured that there is a partnership between AAUP and the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of water, Energy and Environment and the Palestinian Meteorology through the CECCET that was established in the university to face the global climate change which became one of the main dilemmas of the world today. This center will focus on studying the impact of climate change on Palestine in specific especially that any unusual change on climate might threat and affect our agriculture, food and economic production, and this might be caused because of different issues such as high levels of water, or dryness, or higher or lower temperatures or even soil and plants diseases.

Dr. Eyad Yaqoub- a member of the CECCET praised the step of launching the weather station and emphasized that this came as a result of the joint cooperation between AAUP and the different ministries, local Palestinian bodies and organizations that aim to provide good services for the Palestinian citizens and the Palestinian local community. Dr. Yaqoub added: “this station will be a quality addition to the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Environmental Technology that we keen to make it a platform and main reference for information to be added in Palestinian and global researches specialized in the most important topics.
