Overview

The Office of the Vice President for Artificial Intelligence at the Arab American University of Palestine (AAUP) is dedicated to spearheading the university's strategic vision of becoming the first AI-powered university in Palestine and a pioneering institution in artificial intelligence within the MENA region and worldwide.

This office is responsible for driving the integration of artificial intelligence across all facets of the university, including teaching, research, and administration.

By fostering a culture of innovation and ethical AI adoption, the office aims to position AAUP as a regional leader in AI, enhancing its global competitiveness and contributing to the national digital transformation.

AI Strategy and Governance

Developing and implementing the university-wide AI strategy, policies, and ethical guidelines.

AI Training and Development

Offering AI literacy programs, workshops, and training for faculty, staff, and students.

AI Research Support

Providing access to AI tools, resources, and infrastructure to support AI-related research projects.

AI Integration in Curriculum

Collaborating with academic departments to integrate AI into curricula and develop new AI-focused programs.

AI Project Management

Leading and coordinating AI-related projects and initiatives across the university.

AI Partnerships and Collaborations

Building and maintaining partnerships with industry leaders, research institutions, and other universities.

Departments and Units

AI Research and Development Unit

This unit is responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in AI and developing innovative AI applications.

AI in Education Unit

This unit focuses on integrating AI into the curriculum and providing training and support to faculty and students.

AI Governance and Ethics Unit

This unit is responsible for developing and implementing policies and guidelines for the ethical and responsible use of AI.

AI Administrative Integration Unit

This unit specializes in integrating AI into university administrative functions, including student services, human resources, financial operations, and institutional management systems to enhance efficiency and service quality.

Achievements

First Palestinian University to Partner with OpenAI: AAUP is the first university in Palestine to sign a partnership with OpenAI, providing employees with access to cutting-edge AI tools and resources.

AI Training of Trainers (TOT) Program: The university will train 40 employees as AI TOTs to build AI capacity across the institution.

AI-Powered Chatbot "Laila": Launched an AI-powered chatbot, "Laila," to provide 24/7 support to students, faculty, and staff.

AI-Powered Call Center: Integrated AI into the university call center to improve efficiency and service quality.
