The "AsevenA" team from the Faculty of Engineering of the Arab American University won first place in Palestine at the IEEEXtreme 18.0 International Programming Competition, in which 5801 teams from around the world participated.
The winning team included students from the Faculty's Computer Engineering Department, Mahmoud Aziz, Ahmad Sabah, and Abdul Karim Infeiat.
The University participated in the competition with a group of students from the Faculties of Engineering and Information Technology. They took on a 24-hour challenge, competing to solve advanced programming problems distributed throughout the competition.
For his part, the Acting President of the University, Dr. Bara Asfour, congratulated the "AsevenA" team on this outstanding achievement, praising the efforts of the students and supervisors in achieving this honorable result. Dr. Asfour emphasized that the University will continue to support its students in various scientific and technological fields to promote excellence, innovation, and creativity.
In turn, Dr. Mahmoud Obeid, Dean of the AAUP Faculty of Engineering, emphasized that the University attaches great importance to sponsoring this competition and similar events, given their role in enhancing students' skills and honing their programming abilities. He noted the Faculty's commitment to facilitating student participation and providing them with financial and moral support.
"We have established a permanent committee of faculty members and research and teaching assistants to monitor student training and prepare them to compete at the local and global levels. We also organize internal competitions to select University representatives in international programming forums". Dr. Obeid added.
Dr. Obeid also explained that winning first place in Palestine and achieving a global ranking of 70th is a distinguished achievement for the University and its students. This, moreover, confirms the advanced level of the University’s academic programs and its ability to prepare competent graduates for the job market. He noted that companies and institutions are constantly in need for professional programmers, something the University seeks to achieve by preparing its students in the best possible way.
It's worth noting that the IEEEXtreme competition does not stop at the first stage, as the qualified teams continue to solve additional programming problems over the coming months. This competition is one of the most important global programming competitions, measuring students' abilities in problem-solving, algorithms, and advanced computer science.
This achievement enhances the Arab American University's position as one of the leading academic institutions in the fields of programming and engineering, as well as reflects the excellence and creativity of its students in international competitions.
