The Network of Experts on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence without Borders, affiliated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), selected Dr. Mona Nabil Demaidi, Vice President for Artificial Intelligence and Director of International Relations at the University, among the members of the specialized global network.

Dr. Demidi’s inclusion in the UNESCO Network of Artificial Intelligence Ethics without Borders Experts is an important step for the Arab American University and the Palestinian higher education sector, as the University appears as a Palestinian academic body represented on this specialized international platform through the file of an accredited expert on the UNESCO platform, which enhances Palestine’s presence in global discussions related to the future of artificial intelligence and its ethical dimensions.

The network includes an elite group of experts and specialists from various countries of the world in the fields of artificial intelligence governance, digital policies and legislation, and assessing readiness and the ethical impact of modern technologies, in addition to supporting capacity building for institutions, governments and societies, within the framework of implementing the UNESCO recommendation on the ethics of artificial intelligence, which is the first global standard framework in this field.

Dr. Demaidi's selection was based on her specialized experience in artificial intelligence and its governance, and her contributions to developing the national strategy for artificial intelligence in Palestine, in addition to her participation in international initiatives and programs related to digital ethics and artificial intelligence policies in higher education in cooperation with UNESCO and international partners.

In this context, Dr. Demaidi said, “In light of the increasing competition between universities at the regional and international levels in the fields of technology and innovation, the ethical dimension of artificial intelligence has become one of the most important axes of academic and research work, especially with the escalation of global discussions on issues of privacy protection, algorithmic justice, transparency, accountability, and societal responsibility associated with the use of smart systems.”

She added, "This representation confirms that Palestinian universities are no longer limited to following global technological developments, but have become active partners in international discussions related to directing and regulating these technologies in a way that serves humanity and society. It also highlights the importance of sharing Palestinian expertise in formulating global visions and policies for artificial intelligence, at a time when the need for diverse academic voices that contribute to building a more just and inclusive digital future is increasing."

Dr. Demaidi explained that this achievement has dimensions that go beyond the academic aspect, as it reflects the ability of Palestinian institutions to attend specialized international forums and contribute to global issues that have an increasing impact on the future of education, economy, and development. It also confirms the pioneering role played by the Arab American University in supporting digital transformation and promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence at the local and international levels.

In turn, the President of the Arab American University, Dr. Bara Asfour, congratulated Dr. Demaidi on this achievement, which reflects the University’s orientation towards expanding its presence in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, by investing in developing advanced academic and research environments, strengthening international partnerships, and contributing to the production of knowledge and policies related to the responsible use of modern technologies.

Dr. Asfour stressed that the University continues to consolidate its position as a leading academic institution in the fields of technology and innovation, and to enhance Palestine’s presence in the global scene of artificial intelligence and its ethics, which reflects the ambition of Palestinian higher education institutions to actively participate in shaping the future of technology and directing it to serve development and humanity.
