The Arab American University has signed a joint cooperation agreement with Lund University in Sweden as part of its efforts to strengthen its international network and develop its academic and research programs. This agreement is part of the Erasmus+ Mobility program, funded by the European Union, which provides exchange opportunities with higher education institutions outside the European Union.

Under this agreement, AAUP students, graduate students, and faculty members will be able to participate in academic exchange programs with Lund University, with living expenses covered through special grants. The agreement will also allow faculty members to spend academic periods at Lund University, enhancing scientific and knowledge exchange.

Lund University noted in a statement posted on its website that there is a significant amount of knowledge and experience within Palestinian universities, and that increasing exchange between academic staff and students is essential for both parties to learn from each other. It added that Palestinian universities are operating under difficult circumstances, making it necessary to build on existing cooperation and develop new partnerships.

Dr. Majdi Owda, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ramallah Campus, welcomed the partnership, saying, “The collaboration with Lund University opens new horizons for our students and academics to gain exposure to global academic experiences and participate in an advanced research-based educational environment. This would enhance the quality of our academic programs and contribute to building research capabilities.” 

Dr. Adli Saleh, Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality, noted, “This step falls within the framework of the University’s strategy to strengthen its international relations and enhance the efficiency of its academic output. The partnership with Lund University will provide broader opportunities for cooperation in the fields of scientific research, academic program development, and exchange of expertise.”

It is worth noting that Lund University of Sweden is one of the most prestigious European universities, with extensive experience in research and education. It has expanded its cooperation in Palestine to include the Arab American University and Birzeit University, in addition to a constant partnership with Bethlehem University.
